In this school-year program, teens learn how to socialize the animals and help make them more adoptable. There are mandatory training days, plus optional days. Students will get tons of opportunities to help the shelter.
CIA is a three-month long program for students who have a passion for helping animals. Students will volunteer directly with dogs and cats, learn about trending animal welfare topics and work on critical community service projects to help the animals in our care.
For Ages: 14 – 17 years old
Cost: $90.00 for entire 3 month program
What to bring: If your child’s school requires volunteer hours, please have him/her bring the hour log to the program.
What to wear: Long pants and closed-toe shoes (please note – we will send your child home if he/she is not in appropriate attire).

Required Classes Schedule
Program Orientation: Learn about your new role and responsibilities as a HSSV student volunteer, how to get around the shelter and what you’ll be doing on “optional volunteer days.”

Cat Socializing Training Class: Become an expert in reading cat signals and learn how to work with all different types of cat personalities.
Dog Socializing Training Class: You will learn the best ways to socialize the shelter dogs and how to make them more adoptable as they wait to go to their furr-ever home.
Optional Volunteer Days
Each CIA session includes multiple volunteer days during the week and on Saturdays, to practice what students have learned in the trainings. Students will be asked to sign up for these days while they are here for training. Once registered, students will receive a full program schedule with Required and Optional dates and times listed.
