After the fire, HSSV kept going. Now, we need your help to rebuild the spaces and systems that make our lifesaving work possible.
The Rebuild Initiative
On December 16, 2024, a fire changed our building overnight. What it did not change was our commitment to saving lives, keeping families together, and creating a better future for pets and their people.
Since then, Humane Society Silicon Valley has kept going. Our team adapted. Our volunteers and fosters stepped in. Our donors helped carry us forward. And together, we continued showing up for the animals and families who rely on us.
But temporary solutions can only carry us so far.
The Rebuild Initiative is our path forward. It is more than a recovery effort. It is a chance to restore and improve the spaces, systems, and infrastructure that make our lifesaving work possible.
What Your Support Makes Possible
Every gift to the Rebuild Initiative helps HSSV move from temporary solutions to the spaces, systems, and capacity our mission requires.
Since the fire, our team has completely reworked operations to keep animals moving through our care, from performing spay and neuter surgeries in the Wellness Waggin’ just 48 hours after the fire to creating a temporary dog adoption floor and moving vital services into trailers.
Now, your support helps us move from adaptation to rebuilding.
The rebuild is moving forward in three phases:
Phase One: Restoring Dog Adoptions
We are reopening our dog adoptions floor, moving dogs out of temporary classroom space and back into the environment meant for them, one designed to support their daily care and create a welcoming, positive experience for adopters. We look forward to reopening our adoption lobby in late summer 2026.
Phase Two: Rebuilding What Was Lost
We will restore the areas damaged by the fire and bring critical spaces back online, including medical, community services, animal holding, and operational people spaces, so our teams can care for animals and support the community more safely, efficiently, and effectively.
Phase Three: Building for What Comes Next
We will strengthen HSSV for the future, with improvements such as expanded laundry capacity, an additional surgical suite, better workspaces for our people, and infrastructure that helps us support more animals and families.
This is not just about replacing what was damaged. It is about building back with intention, so HSSV can save more lives and serve more families for years to come.
