We named Star because even when she was faced with darkness, she was still a light.

Star is not just any dog-she’s a living testament to strength, resilience, and the power of love. This brave girl faced the unimaginable when an ingested fox tail turned into an infection in her spine and left her in excruciating pain and with a daunting prognosis. Her journey to recovery has been long and uncertain, but with the support of her devoted foster parent and an amazing veterinary team, Star has defied expectations and fought her way back to being the loving playful ball chasing lap dog that she is today. Though she still needs long-term medication to manage her condition, she takes everything in stride-proving that no challenge is too great for this incredible pup.

Star remains the affectionate, joyful dog her family cherishes. She loves belly rubs, chasing her favorite toys, and soaking up the sunshine in her backyard. She’s even potty trained and can use the doggy door to take herself outside! Star is a true survivor, and every day with Star is a reminder of how strong and courageous the spirit of a dog can be. To ensure Star and her future family are set up for success, HSSV is offering six months of medication if needed, the option of a trial adoption, and a post-adoption training scholarship. Potential adopters also enjoy the opportunity to meet with Star’s foster parent and learn about Star’s inspiring journey to recovery and their experience with her in a home environment. We are excited for Star’s next chapter and can’t wait to see the light she will bring to her family.
