Beginning Manners & Obedience for Dogs (5 Months and Older)

Start your dog out on the right paw!

Beginning Manners & Obedience for Dogs is the perfect first training class for your new canine companion. Our goal is to provide a safe and fun learning environment that will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to successfully work with your dog to get the kind of behavior you like, both at home and out in the real world.

We’ll start by spending time in the classroom setting down the fundamentals and then we’ll begin to take them on the road with increasingly more complicated real life challenges so that you can learn how to get your dog to work with you wherever you happen to be.

Coursework includes:

  • Learning to effectively communicate with your canine companion
  • Watch me, the foundation of a great relationship with your dog
  • Fundamental behaviors like sit, down and stay
  • Come (recall) one of the most important behaviors for your dog to stay safe
  • Polite Greeting: teach your dog not to jump on you, other family members and friends
  • Loose-leash walking so you’re not pulled down the street
  • Learn how to teach your dog new behaviors

We’ll also help you work through the basics of bringing your new dog home. We’ll talk about housetraining issues and “naughty” behaviors like chewing and mouthing. We’ll help you learn how to teach your dog to be comfortable when left alone and how to handle your dog’s body so they are comfortable when seeing the vet or the groomer.

Our Beginning and Intermediate Manners & Obedience for Dogs classes are a complete training track for canines who are beginning their obedience training as young adults or adults.

This class is for dogs 5-months and older. Feel free to enroll your senior companion because old dogs really can learn new tricks! You will be required to provide proof of current, age appropriate vaccinations. Beginning Manners and Obedience for Dogs is six consecutive weeks long, each session lasts approximately 50 minutes. Owners should attend the first class without their dog and attend classes 2 - 6 with their dogs.

Intermediate Manners & Obedience for Dogs (5 Months and Older)

Don't lose momentum...build on your dog’s great start!

Intermediate Manners & Obedience for Dogs is the perfect second class for your new canine companion. In this class, you’ll expand on and refine all those techniques and behaviors you learned in Beginning Manners & Obedience (or any other basic training class). Our goal is to provide a safe and fun learning environment that will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to successfully work with your dog to get the kind of behavior you like, both at home and out in the real world.

In this class we’ll continue to present you and your dog with real life challenges so that you can learn how to get your dog to work with you wherever you happen to be. Our classes are focused on giving you and your dog the tools to be comfortable and confident wherever you may be! You’ll even learn some fun tricks so your dog can impress friends and family alike!

Help your dog become a valued community member!

In 1989, the American Kennel Club (AKC) created the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification program to reward responsible ownership and canine good manners in the home and in the community. The goal of our six consecutive week class is to help enhance the relationship between you and your canine companion, while presenting you with real life challenges that prepare your dog to be a great citizen.

Coursework includes preparing for the ten Canine Good Citizen Tests:

  • Accepting a friendly stranger
  • Sitting politely for petting
  • Appearance and Grooming
  • Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
  • Walking through a crowd
  • Coming when called
  • Reaction to another dog

On graduation day, you and your dog will take the Canine Good Citizen test. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test are qualified to receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.
