Humane Society Silicon Valley Board Chair Melissa Dyrdahl Named to 2010 Women of Influence List

Melissa DyrdahlMILPITAS, Calif., March 15, 2010 – – Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) is pleased to announce that its board chair, Melissa Dyrdahl, was recently named one of the "2010 Women of Influence" in Silicon Valley by the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal. Dyrdahl will be featured in the March 19 issue of the Business Journal and will be honored at a dinner at The Fairmont Hotel in San Jose on April 8.

Dyrdahl was one of 100 women chosen for the honor. The award recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of women who are leaders in either the private, public or not- for-profit sectors, who have quickly climbed the corporate ladder or branched out to start their own companies, and who give back to their communities as board members, volunteers and as role models. Women are nominated by their community and selected by a panel of judges.

"The women listed exemplify many of the attributes that make Silicon Valley a global leader in business, philanthropy and public policy. The experience and skills these women demonstrate have helped to innovate and shepherd the valley to success," said James MacGregor, Business Journal publisher.

“I am very excited and honored to be chosen as a woman of influence in Silicon Valley,” says Dyrdahl.  “As a San Jose native, I enjoy working to ensure we have a vibrant community to be proud of.”

“Humane Society Silicon Valley is honored that Melissa Dyrdahl, HSSV’s board chair, is being recognized for the positive impact she is making in the community,” said Christine Benninger, HSSV president. “Melissa certainly is a ‘Woman of Influence!’  Her philanthropic leadership has been invaluable as we built the nation’s first environmentally-certified Animal Community Center.”

In addition to her board chair duties at HSSV, Melissa is an Executive in Residence at San Jose State University's Lucas Graduate School of Business where she advises the administration, faculty and students on business leadership, brand strategy and marketing, and she is a co-founder of Bring Light Inc. (www.bringlight.com), a website for social change that connects donors and charities for more informed and effective online fundraising. She is also on the board of Resource Interactive, the largest woman-owned agency in the country.

Previously, Melissa was Senior Vice President of Corporate Marketing at Adobe Systems where she was a member of the executive team responsible for growing the company from $800M to almost $3B. Under her leadership and vision, the Adobe brand became one of the world’s most recognized technology and consumer brands. In addition, Melissa was responsible for the company’s philanthropy and community affairs and initiated the creation of the Adobe Foundation.
