Humane Society Silicon Valley Holds 8th Annual Walk ‘n Wag At Animal Community Center in Milpitas

MILPITAS, Calif., September 1, 2010 – – Dog agility and training demonstrations, dog costume contests, vendor booths and fun for the entire family highlight Humane Society Silicon Valley’s (HSSV) 8th Annual Walk ‘n Wag Walk-A-Thon. The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010 at HSSV’s Animal Community Center in Milpitas. Check-in registration begins at  8:00 am and the walk will commence at 10:00 am. Hundreds of people and their canine companions are expected to participate in the event to help raise money for the Center’s homeless animals.

“This year, we are encouraging participants to ‘get their wag on’, form a team and start fundraising early,” said Robert Armbrust, event manager for HSSV. “We have a new Walk ‘n Wag website that is fun and easy to use. Walkers can upload photos of their pets, post information about themselves and send their webpage to friends and family asking them to support their efforts.”

“By holding Walk ‘n Wag at our Animal Community Center, we are able to showcase our new programs and services to the public,” said Beth Ward, chief operating officer for HSSV. HSSV’s Center offers an adoption galleria; a medical center offering affordable spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchipping and DNA testing services; a doggie daycare, boarding, grooming and training center; a dog park; a pet store and pet friendly café and an education center offering programs for children and teens.

Each year, HSSV cares for thousands of homeless animals and finds them homes. “Every animal that comes through our doors is given veterinary care, a warm bed, nutritious food, and lots of TLC,” Ward explained. “This walk-a-thon allows us to highlight our life-saving work and celebrate the magic of the human-animal bond,” Benninger added.

Walk ‘n Wag isn’t just for dog owners. All animal lovers are encouraged to walk the course in honor of their pets. The walk is also open to schools and corporations that want to form walk teams. There is no fee to register for the walk, but walkers are encouraged to obtain pledges to help raise money for the shelter animals.

“Our motto is every step and every dollar raised will help save an animal’s life,” Ward said. People interested in registering for the Walk ‘n Wag, or in making a donation, can obtain more information by visiting www.http.org/walk

Humane Society Silicon Valley’s 8th Annual Walk ‘n Wag is sponsored by the PETCO Foundation and PETCO, NVIDIA, DogsDigGreen.com, Mix 106.5, Maggiano’s Little Italy, California’s Great America and Gilroy Gardens.
