At The Fur Ball 2009, more than 300 guests and their canine companions walked the “Gold Carpet” at our sixth annual black tie fundraiser. The event grossed more than $350,000 for our animal guests.

This year’s theme “Hearts of Gold” spoke to the boundless love and devotion of our animal companions – and all the ways that they touch our hearts and enrich our lives.

Lissa Kreisler, popular 94.5 KBAY radio personality, lent her exuberant humor and star presence as evening emcee. More than a dozen wineries offered wine tasting and Maggiano’s Little Italy and La Fondue restaurants served dinner and dessert.

Fun activities
The elegant evening featured a “Best-Dressed Dog” contest sponsored by A DOG’S LIFE, “animal communicator” Joy Mason, DVM, pet portraits by Jeanelle Steiner, a dancing-with-your-dog performance by renowned trainer Cerena Zutis and her legendary dog “Little Guy”, and live music by Mark Russo and The Classy Cats. A silent and live auction rounded out the event. Attendees bid on everything from an African Safari vacation package to a Sharks game package that included a pre-game dinner for two with announcer Randy Hahn in the Sharks media lounge

The event grossed more than $400,000 for our shelter animals!

More than 425 guests and their canine companions celebrated under a tent in the Centennial Lot at California's Great America.  This theme for the evening was "True-Blue Companion" to demonstrate the important role animals play in our lives and the magic that happens when people bond with their pets.

Guests enjoyed wine tasting from a wide variety of Bay Area wineries and dinner from Maggiano's Little Italy. Dessert was provided by La Fondue and Plumed Horse.  Throughout the evening, guests consulted with pet psychics, mingled with fellow animal lovers and posed for portraits and pictures with their dogs. The evening ended with guests taking to the dance floor with their dogs.

A big thanks to all our volunteers and staff who made this event possible, and a special thanks to Deb Walt and Rita Bonasera, The Fur Ball co-chairs.
