Learn Your Dog’s Breed Through HSSV’s New DNA Testing Service!

Are you curious about the breed of your dog? HSSV now offers DNA testing using the Mars Wisdom Panel MX through our Medical Center. The test is $135 and no appointment is necessary. Our Medical staff will collect a small blood sample from your dog, which will be sent to the Wisdom Panel laboratory for analysis. Your pet’s DNA results will be mailed directly to you in the next two to three weeks.

“We chose the Mars Wisdom Panel MX over other available DNA tests because it is considered to be the gold standard in the industry,” says Dr. Julia Lewis, Veterinarian and Medical Director. “This test detects almost 160 breeds in the panel with 90% accuracy. The advantage of DNA testing using blood versus other types of specimens is that blood provides the highest quality DNA analysis.”

Vaccinations & Tests

These vaccine protocols are general guidelines. You should discuss with you own veterinarian to see if they are adequate for your animal's needs.

Canine

$25 DA2PP, DA2PP/C (distemper)
Starting at eight weeks, every three to four weeks until four months of age and then annually. Over four months, vaccine and booster within three to four weeks and then once annually.

$25 Bordatella
Starting at eight weeks old to protect against kennel cough. Annual vaccine.

The initial vaccination is a two shot series given two-four weeks apart, and then once yearly.
If both the vaccine and booster are purchased at the same time, you will save $5.

$20 Rabies
Must be at least four months old. First vaccine is good for one year and from then on the vaccine will be valid for three years.

De-worming

$15 Puppies, four months and under (roundworm)

$25 Dogs under 30 pounds

$45 Dogs 31-60 pounds

$60 Dogs 61 pounds and over (roundworm, tapeworm, hookworm and whipworm)

Testing services

$40 Heartworm
This test required annually before Heartworm product can be purchased; animal must be six months of age.

Feline

$25 FVRCP (distemper)
Starting at eight weeks, every three to four weeks until four months of age and then annually. Over four months, vaccine and booster within three to four weeks and then once annually.

$25 FeLV (feline leukemia virus)
Pre-test required, recommended for all outdoor cats, 12 weeks and older. Pre-test and then two vaccines three-four weeks apart and then annually.

$20 Rabies
Must be at least four months old. First vaccine is good for one year and from then on the vaccine will be valid for three years.
