Can my child stay at HSSV after the CIA program is over?

No. The safety of youth participating in education programs is a priority for us. To ensure your child is safe and not left at our facility unattended, please pick your child up no later than 15 minutes after the CIA class has ended. If you are later than this time, we may charge you $1.00 per minute, past the 15-minute grace period. We also ask that your child remain in the classroom until he/she is safely picked up.

What should CIA students wear and bring with them?

Please wear long pants without holes or excessive fraying and closed-toe shoes while volunteering.

What is the cell phone policy during CIA?

Students are free to use their cell phones to take and post pictures of their experience in our animal habitats, provided the situation is safe and they have completed the majority of their animal volunteering.

Students may not listen to music at any time during their CIA session (and definitely not in the habitats).

Students may not use cell phones to text, make, or accept calls, unless it is an emergency and has been discussed with HSSV staff.

What is the “Community Service Day” on the last day of the program all about?

We encourage family and friends to attend the last day of the program so that CIA students can showcase their “quilt square” and participate in community service activities throughout the shelter.
