Where does the CIA program take place?

The CIA program is held at Humane Society Silicon Valley in the Education Center at 901 Ames Ave., Milpitas, CA, 95035. We are conveniently located off of the 680/280 Freeway and Montague Expressway.

What is the schedule for the Required Training and Optional Volunteer days?

You will sign your child up for training days when you register, and your student will sign up for optional days when they are onsite.  Your child must attend at least 1 of EACH training (i.e. dog training and cat training) and they are held twice. Optional Volunteer days varies per session, however they are typically scheduled after school, Tuesday – Thursday and on Saturday afternoons for about 2 hours each.

How do I register for the CIA program?

To begin the registration process:

  1. Review the program training schedule below and take a look at the optional volunteer day schedule in the FAQ section
  2. Click 1 of the Program Orientation dates you want to sign up for.
  3. Complete the Program Orientation registration form. Please be sure to indicate which cat and dog trainings you would like to attend on the registration form.

Can my child stay at HSSV after the CIA program is over?

No. The safety of youth participating in education programs is a priority for us. To ensure your child is safe and not left at our facility unattended, please pick your child up no later than 15 minutes after the CIA class has ended. If you are later than this time, we will charge $1.00 per minute, past the 15-minute grace period. We also ask that your child remain in the classroom until he/she is safely picked up.What should

CIA students wear and bring with them?

Please wear long pants without holes or excessive fraying, their CIA shirt and closed-toe shoes while volunteering.  Additional shirts can be purchased, please ask your leader during CIA.

What is the cell phone policy during CIA?

Students are free to use their cell phones to take and post pictures of their experience in our animal habitats, provided the situation is safe and they have completed the majority of their animal volunteering.

Students may not listen to music at any time during their CIA session (and definitely not in the habitats).

Students may not use cell phones to text, make, or accept calls, unless it is an emergency and has been discussed with HSSV staff.

What if I have to cancel?

In order for a refund to be offered, please call or email within the time frames listed below:

  1. 75% refund --> 14 days or more before the first day of the CIA Orientation

  2. 50% refund --> 8-13 days before the first day of your CIA Orientation

  3. Refunds will not be issued 7 days or fewer prior to the first day of your scheduled session.

Program Orientation: Wednesday, February 13, 4:00 p – 6:30 p OR Saturday, February 16, 1:30 p – 4:00 p
Cat Training: Wednesday, February 20, 4:00 p – 6:00 p OR Saturday, February 23, from 1:30 p - 3:30 p
Dog Training: Tuesday, March 12, 4:00 p – 6:30 p OR Saturday, March 16, 1:30 p - 4:30 p

Can I still volunteer after CIA is over?

No. In order to volunteer with the animals, students under 18 must be registered for a student volunteering program.  They are welcome join us again for the next session of CIA!
