Compassion In Action

All CIA sessions are currently full. Please check back in February for more summer community service learning opportunities!

Community Service Learning through Compassion In Action (CIA)

If you are a student between the age of 14 and 18 years old and want to help animals, join our community service learning program! During your experience, you will learn about different animal-welfare topics, work on exciting service projects and get hands-on time with special animal guests.

What will I get to do at the shelter?

Not only will you learn about dog behavior and communication, how to handle rabbits and what “Kitten Season” is all about, but you will also do some kennel training with dogs and work on service projects that directly help our shelter guests. Projects might include making animal toys, cleaning foster carriers, or planting animal-friendly plants.

What if I need more community service hours?

No problem! During your service learning experience at the shelter, education staff will help you devise a special project in your community that will allow you to help the shelter animals in a big way, and get more hours. You can also sign up for as many CIA sessions if you want.
