Compassion In Action (CIA) for teens

What is the Compassion In Action (CIA) program?

If you are between the ages of 14 and 17 years old and want to help animals, come and join our 5-week Compassion In Action program!  During your CIA experience, you will learn about different animal-welfare topics, work on exciting service projects at the center and meet and cuddle special animal guests!  Additionally, we will help you complete an outreach project of your choice.

Once you complete the program, we will sign off on your hours, and you will receive a Certificate of Excellence for the work you have completed with us.

How much does CIA cost?

The 5-week program costs $75 per student, per session.  Scholarships are available.

How do I join?
It’s easy!

  1. Pick a CIA session(s) that is open and that you can attend
  2. Print out and complete the CIA application form (one application per student).
  3. Send the completed application form along with your full payment (check, cash, or money order) of $75.00 per session, payable to HSSV, which should be mailed to:

  4. Once your application and payment are received, education department staff will notify you within 7 days by either email or phone of your acceptance. 
  5. If you do not receive a confirmation within 7 days, please call us at

Please Note: If all CIA session(s) you requested are full at the time your application is received, you will be notified and your check will be returned to you by mail.
