Keep Pets in Homes
Surrendering a furry family member to a shelter can be one of the hardest things to go through. Shelters can be a stressful environment for animals, and no matter how state-of-the-art a facility may be, it will never take the place of a real home. We aim to find solutions and provide assistance for people and their animals to help prevent families from being split apart.
We never wish to see families lose a loved one. Humane Society Silicon Valley knows that animals are happier in homes with their loved ones, and the presence of a pet enriches a whole family and community. We also know that if we are able to prevent animals that already have homes from entering our community shelters, we can save the lives of other animals - those who are truly without a home or family.
By providing financial solutions such as our low cost vaccine clinic and Pet Pantry, we prevent families from having to choose between feeding their human family or keeping their beloved pet. Our counseling services and training classes allow families to pick their perfect pet, and then provide support during the transition.
We help conservatively 500 families stay together every year with these programs:
PRE- AND POST-ADOPTION COUNSELING
We provide support to adopters before and after bringing their animals home, to ensure suitable and enduring matches with their new families.
LOST AND FOUND SERVICES
Reuniting lost pets with their owners is one of the most important ways we help families stay together.
LOW-COST VACCINES AND MICROCHIPS
Our medical center provides vaccinations at reduced rates. We also microchip pets to reunite them with their families should they get lost.
PET PANTRY PROGRAM
Some pet owners going through economic hardship are faced with surrendering their animals. We provide pet food at no charge to keep these families together.
We offer classes specifically tailored to the needs of adopted dogs and their families.
Dog owners who can’t afford training classes are sponsored to attend at no cost.
OWNER SURRENDER COUNSELING
We do everything we can to keep pets with their families, including counseling. When there’s no viable alternative, we find surrendered animals new homes.
