Regional Rescue Match Complete
Campaign Co-Chairs Sue and John Diekman generously offered to match donations of any amount to support Humane Society Silicon Valley’s (HSSV) Regional Rescue program up to $500,000. Donors rose to the challenge and gave $509,380, raising over $1 million for this program. Dr. and Mrs. Diekman presented this match in honor of their adopted dog, Jeremy, who was brought to HSSV through this critical lifesaving program.
Through our Regional Rescue program, we transfer animals in from other community shelters to our Animal Community Center, alleviating the strain on the community shelters’ resources. This program allows us to take animals with more specialized needs that government-operated shelters cannot assist. Regional Rescue drives the largest percentage of our annual animal intake, and it continues to grow. In fact, from 2014 to 2016, intake of Regional Rescue Animals grew by 56%.
The gifts generated through this match will ensure that HSSV is able to remain a safety net for homeless animals, and to further improve the lifesaving capabilities of all shelters in the community.
