Campaign Co-Chairs Announced

Humane Society Silicon Valley is honored to have esteemed philanthropy leaders, Sue and John Diekman, as co-chairs for the Paint a Better Future™ comprehensive campaign. Sue and John are dedicated animal lovers who deeply care about giving second chances to homeless pets. With their leadership, HSSV aspires to ensure sustainability and expansion of our lifesaving programs.

Sue Diekman joined HSSV’s Board of Directors in June 2008, and became board chair in July 2012. Sue also serves as chair of the Director’s Advisory Board of the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University, and serves on the boards of the San Francisco Ballet and the East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring program at Stanford. Until she retired in August 1998, Sue was the Director of the AirTouch Communications Foundation. Sue holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a master’s degree in education from Stanford.

John Diekman, PhD is a founder and Managing Partner of 5AM Ventures, a life science venture capital fund located in Menlo Park. Dr. Diekman serves as an honorary board member for HSSV, a charter trustee of Princeton University, and as the chair of the advisory council of the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics at Princeton. He was the chair of the western region for Princeton’s Aspire capital campaign, and is chair of the Princeton University Art Museum Advisory Council. Dr. Diekman earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Princeton, followed by a PhD in organic chemistry from Stanford.

Sue and John have two dogs, Lucky and Jeremy (an HSSV alumnus). They enjoy traveling, the arts, and sports.
